PRUNING

One of the least understood and least appreciated of horticultural skills, proper pruning draws on a wealth of knowledge. The first and most crucial step of any pruning job is to identify the plant. If the pruner knows this, then he can determine when and how to prune. Does the plant flower on new spring growth? Then probably the best time to prune is late winter or early spring. If flowering wood is produced the previous year, then any pruning is best done after flowering. How much to prune, or whether to prune at all, depends on a plant's architecture and vigor. Several other factors can come into play, including the ornamental purposes of the plant, its placement, and its susceptibility to damage from pruning (which can vary with conditions or seasons).

When you choose us to prune your shrubs, you're utilizing decades of experience and knowledge. Not only can we identify most shrubs on sight, but we also carry with us the knowledge necessary to prune shrubs at the right time and in the right way. We would be more than happy to put our pruning expertise to work in your garden.
